TWIN LAKES FAMILY YMCA

On May 23, 2013, the Twin Lakes Family YMCA received accolades from the annual reader’s poll conducted by the Hill Country News. Each year, this local newspaper salutes top businesses in the Cedar Park / Leander area with its “Best of the Best” awards. The winners are determined by readers, who vote in a wide range of categories in order to trumpet their favorite area businesses. This year, the Twin Lakes Family YMCA was voted both "Best Gym" and "Best Organization / Club". 

CHASCO FAMILY YMCA

At the end of May, the CHASCO Family YMCA received a 2013 Best of Round Rock Award in the Child Care classification. Each year, across the greater Round Rock area, the Round Rock Award Program chooses the best local businesses to earn the honor of being named one of the Best of Round Rock in a wide range of areas. The award program focuses on companies that have demonstrated their ability to use various marketing methods to grow their business in spite of difficult economic times. The companies selected for honors exemplify the best of small business; often leading through customer service and community involvement.

Year-Round Aquatics

With our new Indoor Aquatics Facility, there is never an off month for Swimming & Water Activities at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA! That’s right – registration for our wide variety of swim lessons and aquatics classes continues throughout the year. Pool Rentals

Looking for a cool place to hold a group event? Well, how about a Pool Party at the Y? That’s right … our indoor and outdoor (May-Sept.) pool venues can host a wide variety of events from birthday parties to family reunions, neighborhood socials and more. We can provide the perfect venue specifically for your group. Rentals are available on Saturday or Sunday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more information, please download the flyer registration form on the right, and to book your date, please see the Twin Lakes Family YMCA Member Services Desk (512-250-9622).

Mother's Day Out

Now is the time to register for the Y’s Mother’s Day Out program during the 2013-2014 school year at the Ys in Cedar Park, Round Rock and Taylor! Offered twice each week, Mother’s Day Out provides the building blocks of learning for young children. Our curriculum includes art, story time, science and special activities. While Member Registration begins on Saturday, April 27, Open Registration kicks off on Saturday, May 4. Y Afterschool 2013-2014

That is right ... it's time to register for Y Afterschool during the 2013-2014 school year as open registration is in full swing!

Designed to ensure safety for children (Kinder – 5th Grade) while promoting healthy physical and emotion growth, helping working families and inspiring children to learn, the Y Afterschool Program strives to assist each child reach their full potential by offering a positive and enriching environment that encourages the development of character, leadership and cooperative spirit. Y Afterschool, which runs on weekdays from the time that school ends until 6:30 p.m., is also offered at convenient sites in Hutto, Leander, Liberty Hill, Round Rock, Taylor and Thrall ISDs.

Adventure Guides

School years are a time of discovery and rapid learning as children are becoming much more aware of the world around them. While they are beginning to see things differently as they progress, the Y wants to provide parents with a way to stay close to their kids (K-9th grade). We also want to challenge our kids and help them learn new skills, so why not do it as a family and with others? That is where the Y Adventure Guides program comes in as it is purposefully designed for both you as a parent and your children to grow as a family while enjoying the great outdoors. Y Adventure Guides also provides opportunities to make new friends with other kids and parents, as well as a place where kids can be kids and parents can play right along with them. Teen Court

Teen Court is a volunteer learning program for teens (between the ages of 13-17) from any school district in which they will not only be taught and work as an attorney, bailiff and judge in real court hearings, but will actually help determine the sentence of real cases involving teens filed in either Justice Court or Municipal Court. In this forum, individual cases are defended and prosecuted by teen attorneys in front of a teen judge and the verdict is rendered by a jury of teens. Teen Court is also a voluntary program holding teenaged defendants (persons between the ages of 10 and 17 who have received a Class C misdemeanor, plead guilty or no contest, have not been before Teen Court within the last two years and have received permission from a judge and a parent to participate in the program) accountable for their offenses by allowing them to perform community service, to serve jury duty and to attend educational programs in lieu of paying fines for Class C misdemeanors.

The Williamson County Teen Court is a partnership between Judge Edna Staudt, Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, and the YMCA of Greater Williamson County. The Teen Court is also run and supervised by many adult volunteers – such as lawyers, judges, educators and parents. Of note, Teen Court programs have consistently proven effective in reducing the rate of teen repeat offenses. Participation in this Teen Court program gives teens an opportunity to realize their roles in the community, instills a sense of pride and responsibility and, through the use of positive peer pressure, helps create a better community for all.

Teen Court is held at the Justice County Courtroom in the Williamson County Annex at 350 Discovery Blvd. in Cedar Park. Training sessions and court dates are held monthly (download the schedule on the right for specific dates) from 6:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. Of note, staff should arrive between 6:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. on court nights. Birthday Parties

Need a place to celebrate your child’s big day? How about the Twin Lakes Family YMCA in Cedar Park! We offer a wide variety of Birthday Parties (from Gymnastics, Lego Mindstorms, Lego Robotics and Playscape to Pool, Dance, Video Game, Sports and Ballet), which last two (2) hours and include invitations, a party host, two large one-topping pizzas, juice boxes, helium-filled balloons, table coverings, plates, napkins and goodie bags. All parents need to provide are cake, candles and additional party decorations (optional). It’s the ultimate birthday celebration solution!
