Burnet Summer Camp

You heard right -- Y Summer Camp is coming to Burnet! In addition to the numerous summer camp offerings and locations that the Y already has in place for this year, the Y will now be offering summer camp at the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center in Burnet. This camp, which is open to both boys and girls (5-12 yrs.) and will be based at the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center located at 1601 South Water Street in Burnet, will run weekdays from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. from June 4 - Aug. 17. Children attending this camp will enjoy swimming, hiking, arts & crafts, field trips, sports and much more. Cost is only $85 per child per week and, as always, financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Facility Expansion

On Wednesday, March 28, the YMCA of Greater Williamson County held a groundbreaking ceremony for a Facility Expansion project at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA in Cedar Park. Several dignitaries, including Williamson County Commissioner Cynthia Long, as well as Y supporters, board members, volunteers and staff gathered at the Twin Lakes Family YMCA for the official kickoff to a project that will bring an indoor pool, teen center and additional fitness space to the existing Cedar Park facility by January 2013. End of School Overnighter

If your kids (5th-8th Grade) already enjoy the Y, they are going to love our End of School Overnighter! Open to both boys and girls, this overnighter, which begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1 and ends at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at the CHASCO Family YMCA in Round Rock, will not only let the kids spend the night with us, but will see them swim, watch movies, play organized games and a whole lot more. Cost is only $30 per child for Y Family Members and $50 per child for Non-Members. All participants should bring a swimsuit, towel, sleeping bag, pillow and any additional overnight necessities with them to the Y that evening. Worthy Recognition

At the end of April, the Taylor Family YMCA received accolades from the annual reader’s poll conducted by the Taylor Daily Press and the Hutto News. Each year, both local newspapers combine to salute top businesses in Eastern Williamson County with “Best of the Best” awards. The winners are determined by readers, who vote in a wide range of categories in order to trumpet their favorite area businesses. For the second straight year, the Taylor Family YMCA was voted as Best Gym. Thanks to everyone who voted and recognized the outstanding work of our Y staff.

Youth Basketball Rec Plus League

Our new Summer Youth Basketball Recreational Plus League has arrived in Hutto! This rec basketball league will be open to both boys and girls in 3rd-8th grade and will be held at Farley Middle School beginning June 13. All teams, which will have a minimum of eight players, will be organized into male/female age divisions and will take part in six games followed by a postseason tournament. Participating teams will engage in 30-minute practices followed by 45-minute games on either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evenings. Cost is only $40 per person or $250 per team. Teen Court

Teen Court is a volunteer learning program for teens (between the ages of 13-17) from any school district in which they will not only be taught and work as an attorney, bailiff and judge in real court hearings, but will actually help determine the sentence of real cases involving teens filed in either Justice Court or Municipal Court. In this forum, individual cases are defended and prosecuted by teen attorneys in front of a teen judge and the verdict is rendered by a jury of teens. Teen Court is also a voluntary program holding teenaged defendants (persons between the ages of 10 and 17 who have received a Class C misdemeanor, plead guilty or no contest, have not been before Teen Court within the last two years and have received permission from a judge and a parent to participate in the program) accountable for their offenses by allowing them to perform community service, to serve jury duty and to attend educational programs in lieu of paying fines for Class C misdemeanors.

The Williamson County Teen Court is a partnership between Judge Edna Staudt, Justice of the Peace, Pct. 2, and the YMCA of Greater Williamson County. The Teen Court is also run and supervised by many adult volunteers – such as lawyers, judges, educators and parents. Of note, Teen Court programs have consistently proven effective in reducing the rate of teen repeat offenses. Participation in this Teen Court program gives teens an opportunity to realize their roles in the community, instills a sense of pride and responsibility and, through the use of positive peer pressure, helps create a better community for all.

Teen Court is held at the Justice County Courtroom in the Williamson County Annex at 350 Discovery Blvd. in Cedar Park. Training sessions and court dates are held monthly (download the schedule on the right for specific dates) from 6:30 p.m. – 8:45 p.m. Of note, staff should arrive between 6:00 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. on court nights. This fitness and nutrition program will not only teach you to manage your weight while incorporating exercise into your busy schedule, but will also provide you with the nutritional tools you need to make better choices that can be adapted into a permanent healthier lifestyle. Adult Sports Leagues

Adult Sports Leagues for Men’s Basketball and Coed Volleyball are forming for summer at the CHASCO Family YMCA. Our adult summer league begins during the week of July 9, 2012, for both sports and includes eight weekly games followed by a Top 4 team single-elimination postseason tournament. Open registration runs from May 1-31. All registrations submitted on June 1 or later are subject to a $20 late fee. Swim Lessons

Teen Night Live

Open to all teens in 5th-8th grade, Teen Night Live is an evening built exclusively around and for teens at the CHASCO Family YMCA in Round Rock! It’s simply the place to be on a Saturday night. Running from 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., our upcoming Teen Night Live dates are as follows:

Burnet Summer Camp

You heard right -- Y Summer Camp is coming to Burnet! In addition to the numerous summer camp offerings and locations that the Y already has in place for this year, the Y will now be offering summer camp at the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center in Burnet. This camp, which is open to both boys and girls (5-12 yrs.) and will be based at the Galloway-Hammond Recreation Center located at 1601 South Water Street in Burnet, will run weekdays from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. from June 4 - Aug. 17. Children attending this camp will enjoy swimming, hiking, arts & crafts, field trips, sports and much more. Cost is only $85 per child per week and, as always, financial assistance is available for those who qualify. End of School Overnighter

If your kids (5th-8th Grade) already enjoy the Y, they are going to love our End of School Overnighter! Open to both boys and girls, this overnighter, which begins at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1 and ends at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 2 at the CHASCO Family YMCA in Round Rock, will not only let the kids spend the night with us, but will see them swim, watch movies, play organized games and a whole lot more. Cost is only $30 per child for Y Family Members and $50 per child for Non-Members. All participants should bring a swimsuit, towel, sleeping bag, pillow and any additional overnight necessities with them to the Y that evening. Space will fill fast, so make sure to sign up early at the CHASCO Family YMCA Member Services Desk. Each year thousands of children throughout our community experience the wonderful opportunities that summer camp has to offer. Unfortunately, there are also many children who never get that opportunity. Summer camp for kids is one of the most important things that the Y offers and we want to make sure that all kids have a chance to attend camp regardless of their ability to pay. Each year, the YMCA of Greater Williamson County through its Strong Kids Campaign raises money to provide scholarships for families who wish to participate in Y programs but do not have the means necessary to do so. All Y camps want to join in that effort and would like to ask for your help in raising funds for our "Send a Kid to Camp" Campaign so that no child has to miss the opportunity to experience something special and exciting. The CHASCO Family YMCA in Round Rock is now offering CPR / AED / First Aid Training to the public. By taking part in this class, you will not only learn the skills necessary to provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until medical personnel arrive, but you will also learn how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants to adults.
