Capital Campaigns

The YMCA of Greater Williamson County opened its Round Rock facility in 1982 to address a pressing community need for organized programs for youth, family fitness activities and quality child care. Since then, expansion into Burnet, Cedar Park, Leander, Taylor, Hutto and many other communities in Williamson County as well as Burnet and Travis counties has taken place. Even with all of this growth, it has been a work-in-progress to keep pace with the increasing number of families drawn to these counties due to the new construction, affordable housing and exemplary public schools.

All of these communities have shown their support of Y programs with a dramatic increase in membership, child care and other critical programs. Over 10,000 new members have joined the Y in the last five years. The success has been exceptional, due in large part to affordability and the rich diversity of our programs. As much as 20 percent of all members’ fees are subsidized through philanthropic support so that many low-income families can make use of our facilities and services. According to the United States Census Bureau, Williamson County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in the United States – expected to reach one million residents sooner than predicted in the last census. Juveniles between the ages of 10-17 represent 28 percent of the violent crime arrests in Williamson County, making it the second highest in 10 central Texas counties. With families as the majority of the increasing population and to help curb crime rates, more programs are needed to keep kids off the streets and interacting with their families. It is with that in mind that the YMCA of Greater Williamson County embarked on an association-wide capital campaign called Foundation for Mission in 2011. This capital campaign will help the Y address community need by providing new facilities at existing locations as well as new venues.
